Asian Adventures - Video Montage

Whilst away in Asia, I wanted to take as many videos as I could to make a video montage of all my memories from the trip. I shot the videos on a CAMKONG Waterproof Action Camera and an IPhone 6. Link to video montage - https://www.dropbox.com/s/1u8rstawtkzadsb/Our%20Asian%20Adventure.mp4?dl=0

Asian Adventures - Vientiane, Laos

Image
After our rocky journey to Vang Vieng, our journey on to Vientiane was absolutely fine. We got chatting to a nice English couple in front of us and who were actually on the same slow boat as us from Thailand to Laos. When we got dropped off we arranged to meet the couple later on for some drinks. Our hotel was only a 10 minute walk away from where we were dropped off using the Maps Me app. Maps Me is officially now my new favourite app! You download the map of the country you want when you have Wi-Fi and then after this you can use the map through your GPS. This is excellent to use when you are in a foreign country as you can only use your Maps app on your phone when you have Wi-Fi as usually most people won't have 3G to use abroad. This way with Maps Me as long as you have Wi-Fi to download the map of the country then you can search for places and directions to somewhere without needing 3G. We had picked a pretty good hotel for ou...

Asian Adventures - Vang Vieng, Laos

The drive from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng was pretty hairy! It was meant to take us 6 hours and ended up only taking 4 hours! We were driving on small roads in the middle of hills with an incredibly steep verge beside the road! There doesn't seem to be any rules for drivers here. Our driver constantly undertook and overtook on corners so it was best just to not look out the windows and concentrate on something else! Arriving in Vang Vieng we were slightly disappointed as it just seemed pretty dead. However, although the town seemed pretty quiet, the scenery surrounding the town was beautiful! There were lots of hills encircling the whole town which was a gorgeous view. Our hotel we were staying at was The Laos Haven Hotel & Spa, which was neither a haven nor a spa! We had chosen it purely for the pool but soon realised when we arrived we'd made a bad decision booking here. Our room was basic which was fine but as soon as w...

Asian Adventures - Luang Prabang, Laos

Luang Prabang is such a gorgeous town in Laos. Laos is an old French colony so the town has a very European feel about it. The buildings are pretty and a lot different from the other places we've been so far in South East Asia. The guesthouse we stayed in, Villa Ban Phanluang, was run by a family. We were greeted by the owner with a welcome drink for us and a map of the town where he showed us lots of things to do whilst we were there. The first thing I wanted to do was go for a shower as I felt like I was dripping with sweat after carrying my bag in the heat. We were both starving so freshened up quickly and headed into the centre of town to find somewhere to eat. Every time we go into the centre of town we have to cross a bridge. There's either the Bamboo Bridge which is quickest but charges you for crossing. It only works out at 50p a journey so it's not really that bad but you just feel it's annoying to have to pay every time you use it. Although...

Asian Adventures - Journey along the Mekong to Laos

Image
Before leaving on our trip, we booked a Bamba Bus tour from Bangkok through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and then back to Bangkok. This included all our transport for the countries listed and experiences in some of our stops along the way. For example our bicycle tour in Bangkok and our trek in Chiang Mai were through Bamba. We had already paid for Bamba before we left so this meant we didn't need to bring as much spending money on our trip. All we had to do is decide when we wanted to move on to the next place, email Bamba to book it for us then someone picks us up from our hotel, takes us to the bus station, buys our tickets and then shows us what bus to go on. Pretty easy for us! It's probably more expensive than if you did it by yourself but it's far easier doing it this way especially for first time travellers to South East Asia. We spend a lot of our time looking for our next accommodation so on top of that we would have to look into transport as well. We will ha...
