Cocktails in the City - Mansfield Traquair Church

Last Thursday Cocktails in the City was held at Mansfield Traquair Church on Mansfield Road. Lots of cocktail bars around Edinburgh set up mini bars around the church for you to sample one of their cocktails from their menu. Edinburgh bars taking part in the event included Harvey Nichols 4th Floor, Panda & Sons and 56 North.

I had never been inside the church before the event and it was absolutely beautiful inside. It was such a unique place to host an event in.

The event cost £10 which included your entrance fee in to the event, a poker chip that entitled you to one cocktail from one of the stalls and a free makeover from the Armani staff at Harvery Nichols. The staff from Electric Hair Salon in Harvey Nichols were also there doing people's hair.

After using your initial cocktail token, if you wanted any more cocktails you had to buy more tokens from the token stalls set up around the event. The tokens were £6 each which I think is very reasonable for a cocktail considering you could pay anything between £5 and £10 for cocktails out at a bar. No money was exchanged at the bars so after purchasing your tokens at the token stalls you would exchange these at the cocktail bars for their house cocktail.

The first cocktail I went for was a gin based one with orange flavours in it from 56 North. I'm a big fan of gin anyway so I knew it would be one that I enjoyed. The second and third cocktails I went for were rum based ones as rum is not a drink I would usually choose so wanted to try it in a cocktail. The first one was served in a pineapple with a sparkler and tasted like a piña colada. It was delicious! It was definitely my favourite one I had that night and would encourage me to pick a cocktail like that when I'm next out.

The next cocktail I had was rum and lilt mixed together and was served in a lilt can where the top had been taken out and the can was filled with crushed ice. This was really nice and something different. Although I do think I preferred the pineapple one.

Throughout the evening, cocktail master classes were taking place where you could learn how to make certain cocktails and got to know a bit about the origin of some cocktails.

As well as serving cocktails there were also stands selling macaroons and meringues which all looked amazing!! Unfortunately I didn't get round to trying any but they looked great.

The night was a great way to sample the menu from bars I hadn't been to before whilst getting pampered and catching up with friends.
