The Tower Restaurant, Chambers Street

Image
Back in August, which seems like forever ago now that the temperature has dropped, my family and I went to The Tower restaurant inside the Museum of Scotland. It was a treat from my parents for my sister who had received her higher exam results that day. As you may think the food is fairly expensive and not somewhere I would go with my student friends but it was a great experience to go when I wasn't paying!! The food was absolutely gorgeous and there were a wide range of choice on the menu. I went for soup of the day to start which was tomato that day. I was greeted with a large bowl of thick and flavoursome soup that I didn't want to end. For main I had the lasagne and as you can see from the picture above that I broke the number one blogging rule when taking pictures of food, to take it before you finish! This illustrates how good I thought the food was that I couldn't wait to dive in forgetting about any pictures I was going to take.  Another asset of the re...

The Cowshed, Cowgate

Image
Taking advantage of all the free shows at The Fringe Festival I found myself being persuaded to attend one in a venue on the Cowgate whilst on my way with friends to a pub. The show itself was not great, the downside to some free shows, but it did mean I found out about a venue beside it that had turned itself into a barn. Inside the 'barn' were hay bales and tractor tyres to use as seating as well as wooden tables to rest your drinks on. There were different country bands playing on a stage through out the evening which were perfect to listen to as back ground music or there was an area in front of the stage for people to stand and watch the bands also. The Cowshed was such a good change from a regular bar or pub and it is somewhere I could see still being popular after the festival finishes. I am a massive fan of live music so I love anywhere you can go and see some, be it at a concert or just sitting in a bar. This is a great place to try for somewhere different to go...

The Pommery Champagne Bar

Image
Last  week myself and my two friends decided to try out The Pommery Champagne Cafe Bar in the Signet Library just off the Royal Mile. It’s just a pop up for the festival but there will be another restaurant to fill the space after August. My friend’s uncle is the chef there so we were fortunate enough to receive VIP cards to get discount on our meal and some free champagne courtesy of  him too. Although The Champagne Bar is quite expensive, the food there is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth going to treat yourself! They have champagne cocktails, burgers and lobster to take your fancy so head along soon to enjoy it before the end of the festival.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Image
If anyone is thinking of visiting Edinburgh, August in my opinion would be the best time. Apart from the fact August is in the summer months, which means Scotland is more likely to get some sunshine, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is on throughout the whole of August. There are hundreds of shows to go and see in venues all around Edinburgh from comedy shows to plays, there is something for everyone. Myself and my friend went to The Three Sisters or 'The Free Sisters' as it is known over the festival to see some free comedy shows. There are loads of free comedy shows going on in different venues throughout the city. The Free Sisters have created different venues in their grounds and buildings to showcase comedy shows in. They even have a yurt and an old bus in their courtyard that hosts comedy shows everyday. During The Edinburgh Festival at Bristo Square, George Square and The Pleasance there are outdoor bars where you can sit and have a drink while you ...

The Chocolate Lounge, Harvery Nichols

Image
As a student I don't always have the money to go out to the most expensive places in Edinburgh. However, as a late mother's day present my sister and myself decided to treat our mum to some goodies at The Chocolate Lounge inside the department store Harvey Nichols. Harvey Nichols is situated in St. Andrews Square in the centre of the city.   The idea of  The Chocolate Lounge is similar to the Yo Sushi set up. Everyone sits round a counter with the waiters in the middle making up your orders. There's a conveyor belt running in front of you with a selection of food from the menu. Although, unlike Yo Sushi you can't help yourself from the conveyor you have to just order from the waiter. The menu is filled with all kinds of chocolate treats including fondues, sundaes and different cakes, as well as wine, prosecco and champagne that could be enjoyed along with your desserts. I would definitely recommend this as somewhere to go...

Entering the blogging world....

Image
I've finally decided to become part of the world of blogging. I'm a nineteen year old event management student just finishing my second year at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Since only living in Edinburgh for two years there is still so many places I have yet to visit and would like to discover. I decided to set up a blog to showcase all the great places in Edinburgh and hopefully encourage people to visit these places too!
